Government of Flanders MasterMind Scholarships for International Students

The Flemish Ministry of Education offers scholarships for master’s programs at universities and universities of applied sciences and arts in Flanders and Brussels to exceptional international students. The program aims to promote Flanders and Brussels as premier study destinations.

The scholarships are for eligible master’s programs except for preparatory or bridging programs and distance learning. The number of awards is not specified, but there are reserved scholarships for students from specific countries such as Japan, Mexico, Palestine, and the USA. The scholarship includes a grant of €9,600 and a tuition fee waiver per academic year, and the duration of the scholarship is one academic year for 60 ECTS programs and two academic years for 120 ECTS programs.

To Be Eligible 

The applicant applies to take up a Master’s degree program at a higher education institution in Flanders (hereafter ‘Flemish host institution’).

The applicant should have a high standard of academic performance and/or potential.  The student has a Grade Point Average of 3.5 out of 4.0.

The student has a good knowledge of the English language (please check the official website for the specific requirements)

The student has to be accepted by the Host institution to be able to receive the scholarship. Even if the Host institution’s decision to accept the student is taken after the selection of the Master Mind Scholarships program, this criterion applies.

• The applicant can be nominated by only one Flemish higher education institution. If the applicant is preselected by more than one Flemish higher education institution, he/she has to choose one Flemish higher education institution to submit his/her application into the Mobility Online tool.

The applicant must apply to a master’s program at a Flemish higher education institution, have a high standard of academic performance or potential, have a good knowledge of the English language, be accepted by the host institution, and be nominated by only one Flemish higher education institution. Application instructions are that students cannot apply directly and must submit their application through the host institution, and the deadline for applications is 28 April 2023.
